Christina “Tiny” Schuyler Hardcastle is not surprised when a set of scandalous photos arrives in the mail on the day her husband Frank, who is running for Senate, is set to appear on TV with the President. But what Tiny doesn’t know is the arrival of these pictures sets into motion a slow unravelling of her perfectly constructed life. Her husband’s cousin, Major Caspian Harrison, arrives soon after the pictures and Tiny is forced to face a mistake she made two years ago that threatens to change her future.
Tiny Little Thing is the third book in what I like to think is the Schuyler family saga, after A Hundred Summers and The Secret Life of Violet Grant. Once again Beatriz Williams has sucked me into the world of the Schuylers, this time in 1964/1966 Boston/Cape Cod. The book alternates between Tiny’s POV in 1966 Cape Cod and Caspian’s in 1964 Boston, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of the characters on their own, and the separation kept the air of suspense. I never knew what Caspian was thinking in 1966 or Tiny in 1964.
The characters themselves were fascinating, and Williams layered in surprise after surprise, so that once I thought I had a character pegged they would do something to make me question all of my assumptions. Caspian was by far my favorite character, in my opinion he was the most well rounded and fleshed out character in the cast.
Like I mentioned before, Williams kept the surprises coming, and I love a book that can keep me guessing until the last chapter. The plot was tight and worked itself out in a way that left me very satisfied at the end. I know that sounds terribly vague, but I do not want to give away a single spoiler for this book. You need to experience it for yourself!
